Guanajuato International Airport begins 2.8 billion peso expansion

Guanajuato International Airport (AIG) has begun a major modernization and expansion project as part of its 2025–2029 five-year development plan. The project involves a total investment of 2,881 million pesos, representing a 3.6-fold increase compared to the 2020–2024 period.

To date, 635 million pesos have been executed. Completed works include the update of six commercial platform positions, the rescue body, and the installation of new taxiways and drainage rehabilitation. The airport has already increased its aircraft capacity from eight positions in 2022 to 15 current positions.

Future phases scheduled through 2029 include a 23% expansion of the terminal building, a 49% increase in the baggage claim area, and a 150% expansion of the departure lounge. The modernization also features the implementation of autonomous migration filters, simplified customs inspection baggage belts, and three new boarding gates.
