Guanajuato launches new economic strategy and cultural showcase
Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo has introduced ‘Guanajuato Suma’, a new economic strategy designed to attract investment, generate employment, and increase competitiveness across the state’s 46 municipalities. Moving beyond a three-decade model focused primarily on manufacturing costs, the plan aims to transition the state toward high-tech sectors, including semiconductors, software, data centers, electromobility, and medical devices.
The strategy is built on five pillars: balanced regional development, productive and technological diversification, industrial and energy infrastructure, talent and employability, and inclusion. It seeks to leverage Guanajuato’s position as Mexico’s fifth-largest economy by addressing global shifts such as artificial intelligence, energy transition, and the reconfiguration of global supply chains.
In a separate cultural initiative, Guanajuato is participating as the Guest of Honor at the 2026 National Potosina Fair (FENAPO). Through the ‘Pabellón Guanajuato’, the state is showcasing its culinary, artisanal, and cultural heritage, including traditional dances, crafts, and local products like wines, cheeses, and leather goods, to strengthen its tourism positioning.
