Guanajuato leads Mexico in intentional homicide rates

Guanajuato remains the state with the highest concentration of intentional homicides in Mexico, accounting for 8.5 percent of the national total between January and August. According to data presented by Marcela Figueroa Franco, Executive Secretary of the National Public Security System, seven states collectively accounted for 49.3 percent of all homicides recorded in the country during this period.

Following Guanajuato, Baja California ranked second with 8.4 percent, and Chihuahua ranked third with 8 percent. In Chihuahua, 924 homicides were recorded during the first eight months of the year, averaging approximately 2.3 cases per day. Other states contributing significantly to the national total include Sinaloa (7.5 percent), Estado de México (6.1 percent), Guerrero (5.6 percent), and Morelos (5.3 percent).
