Guanajuato mayor dismisses three police officers for student aggression

Samantha Smith, the mayor of Guanajuato's capital, announced the permanent dismissal of three municipal police officers involved in the aggression of University of Guanajuato students. The incident, which gained significant attention on social media, led to the initial separation of six officers while investigations continue to determine individual responsibilities.

The dismissed officers have been identified as Gregorio “N”, Fabián “N”, and Juana “N”. Mayor Smith stated that testimonies from the affected students are being treated as “grave” and that all available evidence and records are being preserved for competent authorities.

In response to the event, the mayor has ordered a review of protocols regarding detention, use of force, transport, and custody to strengthen supervision and training. The Secretariat of Citizen Security has also held meetings with University of Guanajuato authorities and the families of the affected students.
