Guanajuato municipalities face budget cuts amid revenue decline
Guanajuato's 46 municipalities are facing financial adjustments in October due to a decline in federal revenue collection. Edmundo Alain Soto Torres, subsecretary of Finance and Investment, reported a national shortfall of 98.8 billion pesos in participable federal revenue as of September. In Guanajuato, the state has faced a real deficit of 372 million pesos compared to projected transfers. Consequently, local governments will be required to return funds to the Federation to balance their accounts.
To ensure long-term financial viability, the local Congress has set a maximum inflationary adjustment of 3.5% for municipal income laws in 2027. Officials have urged local administrations to strengthen their own revenue collection through property and water taxes.
Separately, Governor Libia Dennise highlighted state investments in Apaseo el Grande, noting that over 405 million pesos have been allocated for infrastructure, education, and health since September 2024. These funds include projects for urban rehabilitation, sports facilities, street paving, and the equipping of a primary health care unit in Obrajuelo.
