Guanajuato officials increase enforcement to curb motorcycle accidents

Health Secretary Gabriel Cortés Alcalá has called on municipalities in Guanajuato to strengthen operations to prevent motorcycle accidents. While he noted that accidents involving electric scooters and skateboards have not yet placed significant pressure on the state health system due to their limited range and speed, he emphasized the need for preventive measures and responsible use of protective equipment.

In Celaya, authorities are responding to a rise in incidents, reporting over 100 motorcycle accidents so far this year, resulting in 14 deaths and more than 90 injuries. The Transit and Highway Police Department will implement operations to penalize riders carrying more than two people or those traveling without helmets.

Following an initial information and deterrence period, violators will face fines ranging from 1,173 to 1,759 pesos and the impoundment of their vehicles. Recent enforcement actions in the area have already resulted in 113 infractions and 14 motorcycles being sent to impound lots.
