Guanajuato sees rise in foreign residents and increased export initiatives

The state of Guanajuato is experiencing a rise in foreign residents, currently accounting for 13 percent of the state's population. According to the Secretary of Tourism and Identity, María Guadalupe Roble León, many of these residents are retirees from the United States and Canada settling in cities such as León, Guanajuato capital, San Miguel de Allende, and Dolores Hidalgo. Additionally, there is a significant Japanese community, particularly in León, linked to the automotive industry.

In a separate economic development effort, the Coordination for the Promotion of Foreign Trade (COFOCE) held an export workshop for entrepreneurs in Guanajuato capital. Nineteen business owners received training to prepare their products for international markets. Successful examples include local brands reaching the Netherlands and Guanajuatense paints being showcased in European galleries. Officials noted that small and medium-sized enterprises (MiPyMEs) have significant opportunities to expand through food and art exports.
