Guanajuato tourism push and guide dispute spotlight sector issues
Ahead of the Feria Nacional Potosina (FENAPO), the Guanajuato state tourism secretariat presented its six destination cities – Celaya, León, Guanajuato capital, San Miguel de Allende, Comonfort and Silao – to officials from neighboring San Luis Potosí. Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo and Secretary of Tourism and Identity María Guadalupe Robles León highlighted the region’s cultural, gastronomic and natural attractions and emphasized collaboration with the Association of Secretaries and Secretaries of Tourism (ASETUR).
Separately, a video circulated on social media showing tourists in the city of Guanajuato confronting a tour guide who allegedly forced them to visit the La Inquisición and Los Lamentos museums. The passengers accused the driver of demanding commissions and reacting angrily when questioned. The incident drew criticism online and referenced the Navarro Smith family, owners of the museums, and the city mayor Samantha Smith Gutiérrez.
