Guanajuato traffic incidents: drunk‑driving crash injures five, cable theft disrupts signals

A drunk driver lost control of a black Volkswagen Jetta near El Mirador in Irapuato, causing a collision with a trailer and two parked vehicles. Five people were injured, including a man who fell roughly five metres and required hospital care. The driver, a 20‑year‑old, was arrested for alleged intoxication.

In Salamanca, authorities reported repeated theft of traffic‑signal wiring and vandalism of control cabinets. The thefts, which occur about once a month, compromise the synchronization of traffic lights and pose risks to motorists and pedestrians. The state transit director, Tadeo Gómez Pastrano, said the perpetrators know how to cut specific cables and are investigating the crimes with the state prosecutor's office.
