Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area hosts science and development forums
The 6th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Cooperation Development Forum was held in Macao on October 31. Organized by the Macao Economic Society and the School of Economics at Jinan University, the forum focused on the development of the Greater Bay Area (GBA) during China’s upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan period. Discussions centered on regional integration, particularly the synergy between Macao and Hengqin, and the role of the GBA as a platform for high-level opening-up.
Simultaneously, the 2026 Greater Bay Area Science Forum is taking place across Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. An industrial technology matchmaking event at the forum featured 148 projects from 68 institutions. Notable technological advancements showcased include brain-computer interfaces and high-accuracy blood testing technology for Alzheimer’s disease, which can identify high-risk individuals 5 to 10 years before symptoms appear.
The forum also highlighted significant progress in energy and artificial intelligence. The Chinese Academy of Sciences presented 67 high-tech achievements in fields such as advanced nuclear energy, hydrogen energy, and smart grids. In the AI sector, developments include an AI-driven global infectious disease intelligence platform and 6G semantic communication prototypes, aimed at accelerating the conversion of scientific research into industrial productivity.
