Guangdong Hospital Baby Swap Triggers Lawsuit After 37 Years
In Qingyuan, Guangdong Province, two women born on the same day in 1989 were mistakenly exchanged at a local hospital. After DNA testing in 2025 revealed the error, the women discovered they had been raised by each other's families for 37 years. One, Li Hui, grew up in a farming household, faced early school dropout, worked various jobs, and was later diagnosed with a blood disorder. The other, Huang Xiaolin, was raised by a more affluent family, endured marital problems and depression, and learned she was not the biological daughter of her parents.
Both women have filed a lawsuit against Qingyuan People's Hospital seeking 2.6 million yuan in compensation for mental distress. The case is scheduled for a hearing on 13 August 2026. The revelation has also caused emotional strain for the biological parents, with Huang’s former father suffering a brain hemorrhage after learning the truth.
