Guangdong office worker commutes daily to live in custom five-story villa

Xiaolu, an office worker born in 1990, chooses a long daily commute from her village in Guangdong to her workplace in Guangzhou to live in a custom-built, five-story modern home.

Completed in 2019, the house was designed and supervised by her husband, an architect. The structure consists of five floors, each approximately 60 square meters, with a total construction and finishing cost of about 800,000 NDT (approximately 2.8 billion VND). Unlike typical rural dwellings, the home is described as a modern “miniature villa” that offers a resort-like atmosphere.

Despite spending at least three hours commuting every day—leaving at 7:00 AM and returning around 9:00 PM—Xiaolu prefers this lifestyle over renting small, crowded, and less private apartments in Guangzhou. She notes that the spaciousness and comfort of her rural home are worth the travel time.
