Regional security updates: Zacatecas fair plans, Michoacán seizures, and Cuban fuel regulations

Various regional security and regulatory updates have been reported across Mexico and Cuba.

In Zacatecas, Governor David Monreal Ávila presented a security plan for the 2026 National Feria de Fresnillo. The operation will involve over 400 security personnel, including the Mexican Army and National Guard, utilizing drones and helicopters to manage expected crowds of up to 50,000 people.

In Michoacán and Morelos, law enforcement actions have resulted in the seizure of tactical equipment, weapons, and illegal surveillance cameras in Buenavista and Apatzingán. In La Piedad, authorities recovered vehicles containing ballistic vests, helmets, and ammunition. Additionally, the Plan Cuautla has successfully dismantled an extortion cell targeting merchants and transporters.

In the State of Mexico, the Secretariat of Mobility (SEMOV) conducted road safety training for over 100 police officers from 17 municipalities to improve emergency response to traffic accidents.

In Cuba, authorities in Guantánamo have issued warnings to private entities regarding fuel handling. Following recent policy changes allowing private fuel sales, officials emphasized that storage facilities must be certified before fuel acquisition to prevent safety violations and legal penalties.
