Guanyar Alcoi challenges Mayor Toni Francés over dual roles

The political platform Guanyar Alcoi has declared the dual roles of Alcoi Mayor Toni Francés to be incompatible. The challenge follows the announcement that Francés will lead the PSOE candidacy for the Alicante constituency in the upcoming general elections on November 29, while maintaining his position as mayor.

Guanyar Alcoi argues that accumulating municipal and national responsibilities negatively impacts the daily management of the city. The group is advocating for legal regulations to require full-time dedication for the mayoralty and to limit the duration of public office to a maximum of two legislatures. This measure aims to prevent the professionalization of politics and ensure more effective dedication to each responsibility.

The platform also criticized the long-term tenure of several representatives in the Alcoi City Council, noting that Francés has held office since 2011 and PSOE mayoral candidate Lorena Zamorano has served as a councilor for sixteen years.
