DNIT to announce new Tocantins River bridge tender within 10 days
The National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT) announced that the bidding notice for a new bridge over the Tocantins River on the BR-235 highway, in Pedro Afonso, is expected to be published within ten days. The announcement was made during a meeting at the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) in Palmas, following concerns regarding missed deadlines previously set by the agency.
The current bridge has been restricted to light vehicles since May due to structural issues. To mitigate the impact on regional logistics, DNIT reported that two of four free ferries intended for cargo transport are expected to begin operations soon, pending authorization from the Tocantins Regulatory Agency (ATR).
Local representatives emphasized the urgency of these measures, particularly as the soybean harvest approaches. The bridge closure affects the transport of agricultural inputs and cattle. Additionally, DNIT is working on projects for alternative routes on the TO-010 highway.
