Guardia Civil arrests man for faking truck theft in diesel and copper robbery case

A 42‑year‑old man was detained by the Guardia Civil in the province of Castellón and charged with two armed robberies and a crime of simulation. The first robbery, on 27 April in Burriana, involved breaking into fuel tanks of several trucks and stealing 2,300 litres of diesel worth about €4,140. The second, reported on 11 May in Onda, concerned the theft of a copper cable coil valued at €5,965 from an electrical substation.

Investigators from the Guardia Civil’s Equipo Roca linked both offences to a light‑weight truck owned by the suspect. To hinder the investigation, the man filed a false report claiming the truck had been stolen. The deception was uncovered, leading to his arrest and presentation before the Castellón de la Plana court.

The case is part of Spain’s National Plan against copper theft, aimed at preventing the illegal removal and trade of copper materials.
