Guardia Civil arrests two suspects for distraction thefts in Spain
The Guardia Civil has arrested two Romanian nationals, aged 39 and 66, suspected of a series of thefts in supermarket parking lots across the provinces of Alicante, Valencia, and Murcia. The suspects allegedly utilized the ‘distraction method,’ where one individual engages the victim while the other steals their belongings.
The arrests occurred in Benifaió after an off-duty officer observed a man approaching a woman to ask for directions to a pharmacy. During the interaction, a second man emerged from the woman's vehicle and was seen hiding a stolen wallet under his shirt. Following a pursuit, the officer apprehended the first suspect, and the second was located and arrested shortly after. High-end branded items with price tags were recovered from the suspects' vehicle.
In a separate reported incident in Valencia, a student shared video footage documenting a suspected attempted theft in the Jardín del Turia. The footage shows an individual approaching a person from behind, appearing to monitor their footwear while keeping a hand near the victim's belongings. No theft was confirmed in the park incident, and no police intervention was reported at that location.
