Guardia Civil busts immigrant smuggling network in Ceuta, arrests 11

The Guardia Civil launched an operation in Ceuta targeting a criminal network that trafficked migrants using hazardous “pateras de la muerte.” The network operated in Ceuta, Algeciras and Málaga, charging up to €14,000 per passage and was linked to the disappearance of a migrant during a crossing. Eleven suspects were placed in preventive prison following a court order. Investigators said the group also collaborated with the Royal Gendarmerie of Morocco, which assisted in the probe. Charges include organized crime, immigrant trafficking and, for one detainee, a public‑health offence after hashish was found at his residence.
