Guardia Civil calls for more female officers in Balearic Islands

The Guardia Civil has called for an increased female presence within its ranks to advance gender equality and improve public safety. During a conference in the Balearic Islands titled ‘The role of women in today’s society’, Lieutenant Colonel Verónica Isabel Guillén, head of the Human Rights, Equality, and Diversity Area, argued that female representation in operational units is essential to adequately serve all citizens.

Guillén emphasized that diversity enriches decision-making and that equality is a matter of both social justice and public security. She also criticized the tendency to associate job requirements solely with physical strength, advocating for the recognition of qualities such as courage and bravery. While the Balearic Islands currently leads the nation in female representation for the Guardia Civil at 17.9%, challenges regarding work-life balance and career promotion remain.
