Guardia Civil investigates animal cruelty in Cantabria

The Guardia Civil in Cantabria has launched investigations into a 56-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman for alleged animal cruelty in two separate incidents occurring in August.

In Castañeda, authorities investigated a report of a dog being assaulted by its owner. Upon inspection, the animal was found to lack a microchip, required regulatory documentation, and had received no basic sanitary controls. In addition to criminal proceedings for animal abuse, administrative charges were filed for serious violations of the Animal Welfare Law.

In Mazcuerras, a dog was found abandoned in a state of advanced physical deterioration. Medical examinations revealed the animal was suffering from an untreated terminal illness. To prevent prolonged agony, the dog had to be euthanized. Investigations determined the owner failed to provide necessary veterinary care or minimum required care during the illness.
