Guardia Civil rescues fox trapped in Guardamar del Segura reservoir
Agents from the Guardia Civil’s Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) rescued a fox trapped in an irrigation reservoir in Guardamar del Segura, Alicante. The animal was unable to climb out of the reservoir on its own due to the structure of the facility.
Following an alert from the Operational Services Center (COS), SEPRONA agents, supported by local police and firefighters, conducted a careful operation. An agent successfully captured the fox using an official capture lasso to pull it from the water. The fox was unharmed and subsequently released back into its natural habitat.
The incident highlights the risks irrigation reservoirs pose to local wildlife. Authorities noted that installing escape ramps or similar features could help prevent animals from becoming trapped in such installations.
