Toledo authorities end search for reported lion in Sierra de San Vicente

The Guardia Civil has suspended a search operation in the Sierra de San Vicente, Toledo, after failing to find any evidence of a reported lion. The search was triggered on Wednesday morning when a delivery driver reported seeing a large feline near the Convento del Piélago on the TO-1375 road.

Authorities deployed a significant response, including the Seprona nature protection unit, helicopters, drones, and the Pegaso team. Investigators checked nearby zoological facilities, including Zoo Safari Fauna Aventura in Hinojosa de San Vicente, which confirmed that no animals were missing and threatened legal action against false accusations.

Due to the lack of tracks, remains, or other physical evidence, officials considered the possibility that the witness may have mistaken a large dog, such as a Tibetan Mastiff, for a lion. Local municipalities issued precautions to residents during the search, but the operation was concluded without any confirmation of a large predator in the area.
