Guardia Civil seizes 83,836 illegal toys in Galicia

The Guardia Civil has seized 83,836 illegal and dangerous toys during inspections of street vendor stalls at patron saint festivals in Galicia, Spain. The operation, conducted by the Fiscal and Border Patrol of A Coruña, took place between July and September 2026 in the towns of Sada, Arteixo, Culleredo, and Carral.

The seized items lacked legal import documentation and exhibited serious safety deficiencies. Among the confiscated goods were nearly 3,000 toxic ‘squishy’ and ‘dumpling’ toys, which have previously been subject to market recalls in the United Kingdom and Asturias due to chemical composition risks and their resemblance to food.

The investigation began with the seizure of 2,872 toys from street vendors. Subsequent searches led authorities to two warehouses containing an additional 80,964 products, with an estimated total value of nearly 124,000 euros. The operation resulted in four commercial inspections and 22 reports for illicitly imported merchandise, which have been referred to administrative authorities.
