Guardia di Finanza honors patron Saint Matthew in regional ceremonies

Various provincial commands of the Guardia di Finanza in Italy held religious ceremonies and institutional commemorations to honor Saint Matthew, the patron saint of the corps.

In Isernia, the celebration took place at the Church of the Sacred Heart, attended by provincial authorities and military personnel to honor the values of loyalty and sacrifice. In Rieti, a mass was held at the Church of San Francesco Nuovo, noting the historical recognition of Saint Matthew as patron by Pope Pius XI in 1934. In Fermo, Archbishop Rocco Pennacchio led a solemn mass in the Cathedral crypt, where officials also honored members of the corps who lost their lives in the line of duty.

In Messina, ceremonies included a mass at the Sanctuary of Santa Maria di Montalto and a commemorative event in Torre Faro. The latter honored Major Giuseppe Rando, a financier who received a Bronze Medal for Bravery in 1899 for rescuing fishing crews during a storm. The event included the unveiling of a commemorative plaque in his honor.
