Guardia di Finanza introduces costs for unjustified rescue requests

The Guardia di Finanza has implemented new regulations regarding search and rescue operations. Under these rules, individuals who intentionally cause a dangerous situation through voluntary or grossly imprudent behavior, or those who request assistance without real necessity or justified cause, may be held liable for the costs of the operation.

These costs can be significant; for instance, helicopter deployments can cost approximately 4,184.10 euros per hour for certain models. The new measures aim to protect public resources and ensure that specialized personnel, drones, aircraft, and naval units remain available for genuine emergencies.

The agency emphasizes that this is not a generalized fee for rescue services. Anyone in actual danger or fearing for someone's safety is encouraged to call for help without hesitation. Rescue operations will always be prioritized first, and any assessment of costs or responsibility will only occur after the operation is concluded and the circumstances have been evaluated.
