Guardia di Finanza uncovers €4 million tax evasion in Puglia and Calabria

The Italian Guardia di Finanza’s anti‑tax‑evasion investigations in the southern regions uncovered significant undeclared revenue. In Puglia, raids on construction firms, a restaurant and a funeral‑services agency in the municipalities of Parabita, Matino and Gallipoli revealed extra‑accounting documentation that allowed authorities to reconstruct more than €3.7 million in income hidden from the tax authorities.

In Calabria’s tourist town of Soverato, financial‑crime officers identified fake primary residences and second‑home schemes used by 97 individuals to avoid the municipal property tax (IMU). The audit determined an unpaid sum of about €350 000 for the period 2020‑2024, and more than 20 % of the notified taxpayers have already settled their debts.

Both operations form part of the Guardia di Finanza’s broader effort to combat fiscal fraud that distorts competition and deprives public services of resources.
