Guardia Nacional adopts Chihuahua dog named Comando

Comando, a 13-month-old Chihuahua weighing approximately seven kilograms, has been adopted by Mexico’s National Guard (Guardia Nacional) in Chihuahua. Originally surrendered by an elderly couple who could no longer care for him, the dog was taken in by institution personnel and has since become a tool for social proximity.

Lieutenant Débora Hernández noted that Comando’s small size helps facilitate interaction between the National Guard and the public, fostering trust through a more approachable presence. While his primary role is community engagement, he also undergoes specialized training for search and rescue and drug detection, utilizing custom gear including a tactical vest, helmet, and protective goggles.

The dog’s unique appearance and participation in training exercises have gained international attention, with his story featured by various global media outlets such as Reuters, Forbes, and the New York Post.
