Guardia Nacional agent tied to death of La Familia Michoacana leader in Metepec

A member of Mexico's Guardia Nacional, identified as Judith N, was investigated after a firearm accident in Metepec, State of Mexico, resulted in the death of her boyfriend, Tomás, a known leader of the criminal group La Familia Michoacana. Both were shot when the loaded pistol they were handling discharged unexpectedly; Judith sustained a hand injury while Tomás suffered fatal wounds to his arm and torso and died at a local hospital.

State prosecutors opened a homicide investigation, noting inconsistencies in the agent's initial statements about a robbery.
