Guarne implements new waste separation and collection controls

Aquaterra E. S. P. has implemented a permanent strategy of verification, education, and control regarding waste separation in the urban area of Guarne, Colombia. The initiative aims to strengthen proper waste disposal habits among residents and increase the recovery of recyclable materials.

Under this new system, personnel conduct inspections before collection vehicles arrive. If waste bags are found to contain mixed materials or items that do not correspond to the scheduled collection day, they will not be picked up. Instead, workers will mark the bags with an informative sticker explaining that the waste was not collected due to improper separation or incorrect scheduling. The sticker also includes the official collection frequencies to help citizens correct their disposal habits.

The company stated that the measure serves an environmental purpose: preventing the contamination of recyclable materials by organic or non-recoverable waste. By promoting separation at the source, Aquaterra seeks to increase the volume of materials that can be reused and reduce the total amount of waste sent to the La Pradera landfill.
