Guarujá, Brazil and Manteigas, Portugal confront water supply crises

In Guarujá, Brazil, Mayor Farid Madi (Podemos) convened Sabesp President Carlos Augusto Leone Piani and Arsesp President Diego Allan Vieira Domingues to address a severe water shortage. The meeting resulted in the creation of a crisis committee involving municipal officials, Sabesp, Arsesp, and regional water agencies to coordinate emergency measures such as additional water trucks while a new interconnection project between Cubatão and Vicente de Carvalho is completed within about 40 days.

In Manteigas, Portugal, municipal council president Flávio Massano announced that the recent water supply crisis has been resolved after repairing two major pipe ruptures and a significant leak in the Outeiro neighborhood. The reservoir level, which had dropped to near zero, has recovered to about 95% capacity, and authorities are urging continued responsible water consumption.

Both municipalities emphasized the importance of coordinated response and public cooperation to mitigate the impact of drought‑related water shortages.
