Guarulhos improves municipal education management rating
The city of Guarulhos has shown significant progress in its municipal education management, according to the latest results from the Tribunal de Contas do Estado de São Paulo (TCESP). The city's score on the Municipal Management Effectiveness Index (IEG-M) rose from a grade C (Low Adequacy Level) in 2024 to a grade B (Effective Management).
This improvement was driven by advancements in four key areas: daycare availability, student learning, infrastructure, and teacher appreciation. The TCESP's i-Educ indicator, which measures actual management effectiveness rather than just budgetary investment, placed the municipality in the effective management bracket, achieving a score between 60% and 74.9%.
Local officials noted that the transition from a critical performance range to an effective level reflects successful investments and management corrections. Improvements include reduced waiting lists for childcare, increased school attendance, infrastructure reforms, and enhanced teacher training.
