Guarulhos launches free chess classes and anniversary cultural program

The Guarulhos Secretariat of Culture and Tourism is offering a free chess workshop for beginners and regular players. Sessions are held on Thursdays in August at two municipal libraries – Biblioteca Monteiro Lobato (center) on mornings and Biblioteca Cidade Seródio on afternoons – with limited slots that require prior registration. The program is open to anyone aged 10 and older and aims to develop skills such as attention, memory and planning.

The Centro Municipal de Educação Casarão da Nossa História is marking its first anniversary with a series of free cultural activities. Highlights include a literary salon on Monday at 14:00, and on Saturday an opening vernissage of two exhibitions – “Mestre Vicente Silva, 90 anos” and “Sem Memória Não Há Futuro” – followed by artist talks, live music, a magic show, popcorn and cotton candy. The centre, inaugurated in July 2025, serves as a hub for the city’s historical education and community events.
