Águas do Rio adds electronic tax invoice and detailed breakdown to water bills

Starting this month, Rio de Janeiro’s water concessionaire Águas do Rio will include the electronic water and sanitation tax invoice (NFAg‑e) on its water and sewage bills. The change follows Brazil’s Complementary Law 214/2025, which standardises tax documentation for sanitation services. The new invoices display a detailed breakdown of taxes and feature a QR code that lets customers verify the document’s authenticity on the State Treasury’s portal.

The company says the update is purely documentary – consumption measurement and tariff rates remain unchanged, and existing payment agreements continue as before. Commercial manager Douglas Lourenço emphasized, “There has been no alteration in the values or the way charges are applied,” and noted that customer‑support channels are ready to assist with the transition.
