Águas do Rio expands water supply with new treatment plants in Duque de Caxias and Queimados

A new water‑treatment station in Duque de Caxias, the Parque Império ETA, is entering operation and will add more than 8.6 million litres of treated water per day to the municipal supply, providing a more reliable source for roughly 40 000 residents in a region long affected by shortages. Samuel Augusto, executive director of the concessionaire, said the goal is to ensure "more safety and regularity" for the community.

An emergency water‑treatment plant in Queimados began operating on 3 July. Built from container modules, it can produce about 9 million litres daily, benefiting approximately 45 000 people and stabilising the system during peak demand. Felipe Esteves, executive director of Águas do Rio, highlighted the added hydraulic security for the municipality. Both facilities are delivered by Águas do Rio, part of the Aegea group, under a concession that started in November 2021 and has already expanded distribution networks and served tens of thousands of households across the Baixada Fluminense region.
