Guastalla robbery and Viterbo burglaries highlight Italy's crime wave

In Guastalla, a young man was attacked by a group of six to seven peers, punched, robbed of his phone and wallet and forced to flee into a passing Carabinieri patrol car. The suspects, aged 16 to 28, were arrested and charged with aggravated robbery, with three processed by the Reggio Emilia prosecutor and three minors by the Bologna juvenile court. The stolen items were recovered and returned to the victim.

In Viterbo, a series of burglaries struck five apartments over two evenings on July 3‑4. Thieves entered homes on Via Garbini and Via Santa Giacinta Marescotti by breaking windows and scaling fences, stealing jewelry, silverware and other valuables. Police and Carabinieri intervened, and in one case a resident’s alarm forced the intruders to flee. The investigation continues with no suspects identified yet.
