Guatemala and Belize discuss relations with OAS amid ICJ dispute

Foreign ministers from Guatemala and Belize met with the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) to discuss bilateral relations following a decision by the International Court of Justice (ICJ). The discussions focused on maintaining stability and dialogue while awaiting a binding judicial ruling regarding a long-standing territorial dispute involving islands and maritime zones.

The meeting took place at the OAS office in the Adjacency Zone, a 213-kilometer strip used to foster trust between the two nations. Participants discussed continued economic assistance and the role of the OAS in supporting confidence-building measures to reduce risks near the border during the legal proceedings.
