Guatemala and Colombia see leadership transitions in migration council and national university
In Guatemala, the Congress of the Republic has begun the process to elect the secretary and subsecretary of the National Council for Migrant Assistance (Conamigua) for the 2026-2029 term. A total of 31 candidates have submitted documentation. The selection process involves evaluating academic merits, professional experience, and human rights knowledge on a 100-point scale. Among the applicants are current Conamigua officials and individuals with political ties to previous administrations.
In Colombia, the Superior University Council of the National University has appointed new deans for 22 faculties across the Bogotá, Medellín, Manizales, and Palmira campuses for the 2026-2028 period. The decision was met with controversy as three representatives—representing students, the Academic Council, and professors—withdrew from the session. They challenged the quorum requirements used to conduct the vote and criticized the lack of a full broadcast of the session, warning of potential legal challenges.
