Guatemala authorities arrest four men and charge seven in weapons-related cases
Guatemalan National Civil Police (PNC) reported the arrest of four men across various departments for the illegal possession of firearms. The operations took place in Suchitepéquez, Jalapa, Alta Verapaz, and Guatemala City. The detainees were found with undocumented firearms, including one shotgun that had been reported stolen in June.
In a separate legal development, a judge has linked seven individuals to a criminal process regarding the illegal theft and sale of PNC ammunition. The group includes four police officers and three civilians. The officers face charges of breach of duty and embezzlement for the alleged theft and sale of exclusive institutional ammunition, which was being offered on social media.
A judge ordered preventive detention for the four officers and one civilian, while two others—a father and son—were granted substitute measures with financial bail. The investigation was launched by the Prosecutor's Office Against Organized Crime following reports of ammunition sales on social networks.
