Guatemala Cacif warns of organized‑crime infiltration ahead of 2027 elections

The Coordinating Committee of Agricultural, Commercial, Industrial and Financial Associations (Cacif) warned that organized crime could infiltrate Guatemala’s upcoming 2027 general elections. Cacif president Carlos Arias Bouscayrol said the committee is working with the Supreme Electoral Tribunal to restore public confidence and to mobilise about 140,000 citizens to serve on vote‑receiving boards. He noted that the previous election cycle eroded trust and that criminal groups are seeking political influence, urging authorities to remain vigilant and free of illicit ties. Arias called on the public to participate actively and on political actors to reject any criminal involvement, stressing that the country cannot afford further penetration of its institutions.
