Guatemala City establishes construction restrictions near AeroMetro route
The Guatemala City Municipal Council has approved Agreement COM-31-2026, establishing new regulations and a permanent safety zone for properties located along the AeroMetro route. This regulation aims to safeguard the aerial cable car system by delimiting airspace and regulating the height of structures to prevent interference with the cabins' movement.
The safety zone covers two primary segments: the El Trébol-Montúfar stretch (2.1 km) and the El Trébol-Molino de las Flores stretch (6.8 km), which extends into the municipality of Mixco. The municipality holds the authority to restrict urban heights for any buildings that interfere with the required safety distances or the kinematic sweep of the cabins.
Regarding existing properties, the regulation does not mandate the automatic demolition or modification of all current buildings near the route. Instead, adjustments will only be required on a case-by-case basis if a specific structure is found to interfere with the established safety margins or the operational space of the AeroMetro system.
