Guatemala defeats El Salvador 6-0 in Nations League victory
Guatemala secured its first victory of 2026 by defeating El Salvador 6-0 in a CONCACAF Nations League Group B match at the Manuel Felipe Carrera stadium. The win, orchestrated by Mexican coach Luis Fernando Tena, follows Guatemala’s recent loss to Jamaica.
William Jehú Fajardo was the standout performer, scoring a hat-trick with goals in the 32nd, 88th, and stoppage time minutes. Other scorers included Darwin Lom (8th minute), Rubio Rubín (28th minute), and Jorge Aparicio (56th minute).
Following the match, El Salvador coach Hernán Darío “Bolillo” Gómez criticized his team’s performance, describing the result as a “disaster” and noting that the team was outperformed in every aspect. The heavy defeat has led to calls for accountability within the Salvadoran technical staff. Guatemala now prepares to face Suriname in their upcoming fixtures.
