Migration trends rise in Caribbean and Central America
Migration and deportation trends are shifting across the Caribbean and Central America. In the Dominican Republic, the General Directorate of Migration reported that 2,391 Dominicans were deported from the United States between January and August 2026. The primary causes for these returns were illegal migration (1,512 cases) and drug-related offenses (399 cases). The majority of those deported were men, accounting for approximately 91% of the total.
Simultaneously, the Dominican Republic and Haiti are engaging in bilateral talks in Dajabón to address border security, migration, and trade. These discussions include cooperation on the Gang Suppression Force to stabilize Haiti.
