Guatemala Diocese investigates alleged Eucharistic miracle
A multidisciplinary team in the Diocese of Santa Rosa de Lima, Guatemala, is investigating a suspected Eucharistic miracle. The investigation follows reports that a consecrated host failed to dissolve in water and developed reddish stains.
The incident occurred during a Mass on July 30 at a school in Cuilapa. After a priest recovered the host from a student, he placed it in a glass of water intended to allow it to dissolve naturally. By August 6, the host remained intact and exhibited red markings.
Bishop José Cayetano Parra has assembled a team including a biologist, a doctor, a psychologist, a nurse, a layperson, and a priest to examine the phenomenon. The primary objective is to determine if the red stains are blood and to analyze the physical properties of the host. Father José Alejandro García noted that the process will require significant time for study and reflection, emphasizing that no official confirmation of a miracle has been made.
