Guatemala Judicial Branch granted paid leave for September holiday

The Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) has authorized a paid leave for employees of the Judicial Branch (OJ) in Guatemala on Monday, September 14. This decision, recorded in Act 41-2026, follows a request from the Judicial Branch Workers' Union (STOJ) to facilitate travel for employees returning to their hometowns for the Independence Day celebrations.

For staff who do not typically work weekends, this measure allows for a four-day consecutive break from Saturday, September 12, through Tuesday, September 15. While the national holiday on September 15 remains unchanged, the judicial offices and administrative headquarters will be closed nationwide on the 14th.

To ensure essential services are maintained, duty courts will operate starting Friday to handle requirements from the Ministry of Interior, the Public Ministry, and the general public. The leave does not apply to employees whose functions cannot be interrupted and must continue working.
