Guatemala police mourn 20 fallen officers as security strategy shifts
Guatemala’s Police National Civil (PNC) has lost 20 officers so far in 2026, as announced by Interior Minister Marco Antonio Villeda. The latest fatality was officer Byron Anibal Mejía Montenegro, killed in an ambush while responding to a call in Amatitlán.
