Guatemala prepares military police deployment to Haiti

Guatemala is finalizing preparations to deploy a Military Police unit to Haiti as part of international efforts to strengthen peace and security. The Guatemalan Ministry of National Defense has held strategic planning meetings with officials from the United States to coordinate the mission.

Participants in the planning sessions included Colonel Justin B. Gordkowski of the U.S. Army and leader of the Tiger GSF Team, Anna Lisa Gazzola, head of the Policy, Liaison, and Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Unit, and Julio Daniel Armijos, a section chief from the U.S. Embassy in Guatemala. The discussions focused on administrative and logistical aspects, including mobility and bilateral agreement compliance.

While the specific deployment date has not yet been determined, the Guatemalan military aims to ensure the contingent operates under high professional standards. Typical deployments for such groups in Haiti last approximately one year.
