Guatemala President Arévalo seeks court order to limit simultaneous minister interpellations

President Bernardo Arévalo told reporters that a wave of interpellations against members of his cabinet is being used by opposition legislators to harass and obstruct the government. He said the executive has asked the Constitutional Court to intervene, filing an amparo through the Procuraduría General de la Nación on 16 July. The request asks the Court to instruct the congressional board to schedule interpellations of the 13‑14 ministers in a coordinated, non‑simultaneous manner so that they do not paralyze executive functions. Arévalo stressed that the move does not aim to curtail deputies’ constitutional right to interpellate, but to prevent the process from becoming a tool of political abuse.
