Guatemala proposes urgent telework law for private sector

Guatemalan deputies have presented a motion for the urgent approval of Initiative 6556, which seeks to establish a Telework Law specifically for the private sector. Proponents argue the measure will support citizens by reducing commuting time and mitigating the economic impact of rising fuel prices.

José Pablo Mendoza, Vice President of the Legislative Labor Commission, stated that the proposal was developed over a year in collaboration with various chambers and sectors. He emphasized that the law aims to decentralize employment, allowing Guatemalan talent to access formal work opportunities without being limited by geographic constraints.
