Guatemala to Double Military Deployment in Haiti to 300 Troops

President Bernardo Arévalo de León announced that Guatemala will increase its contingent in Haiti from 150 to 300 soldiers. The expansion is pending deployment and is part of the United Nations‑approved Force for the Suppression of Gangs (GSF), which aims to combat armed gangs in the Caribbean nation. The move was presented during the celebrations of the Guatemalan Army’s 155th anniversary, highlighting the country’s commitment to regional security and the modernization of its armed forces. While the additional troops have not yet arrived, the Guatemalan armed forces confirmed that the process is underway.
