Guatemala to experience zenith noon on August 13
Guatemala is set to experience its second "day without shadow" or zenith noon of 2026 on August 13. During this astronomical event, the sun reaches a position directly overhead at its zenith, causing vertical objects such as trees, poles, and columns to cast minimal to no shadows.
According to the National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (Insivumeh), the phenomenon will occur at approximately 12:07. Edgar Castro from the Universidad Galileo noted that while the sun passes through the zenith as it returns toward the equator, visibility can be limited by seasonal cloud cover. Authorities advise the public to use sunscreen and protective clothing to avoid excessive sun exposure during this time.
